Malaysian King Cobra Named Puppy
In the summer of 2021 the Crossroads crew and the staff from Louisville Animal Dermatology came together to perform a multi tumor removal surgery on the Malaysian king cobra named Puppy. Doctor Joya Griffin and her veterinary dermatology clinic located in Louisville, KY had recently started their new show on Nat Geo Wild, called Pop Goes the Vet! They had contacted the Kentucky Reptile Zoo to see if they could remove the tumors on Puppy for their show and if they could work with us considering we are KRZ's veterinarian. We were very grateful that they thought of us and let us share our expertise when it comes to working with reptiles.
Puppy is a 13ft long Malaysian King Cobra that is about 25 years old, he has fathered the majority of Malaysian king cobras at zoo's in surrounding areas, and is the leading snake at KRZ helping in medical research with his venom. We did successfully removed the tumors and Puppy is living a happy tumor free life today!
Pictured below is a painting that Puppy made for us to thank everyone for his surgery!

The following images were taken in our Versailles office. It is a 15 foot King Cobra that had a tumor on her mid abdomen. Dr. Keith and Dr. Johnson are the surgeons. Curators, Harrison and Wiley, are also seen in the video (BTW, don’t do this at home…)
